Introductions

SimbaHealth, with the support of the Pharus Foundation, has been busy over the past 1.5 years with the construction of the new surgical complex. However, in addition to improving the infrastructure, we are striving to implement sustainable changes on multiple fronts to make Sengerema Hospital future-proof. An important factor is the ongoing presence of an adequate number of skilled local staff. Local staff is essential because doctors from urban areas are not quick to come to rural regions to establish themselves, especially when they can work in large academic hospitals. When individuals from the region can be trained, the likelihood of them staying and actively engaging in new hospital developments increases. However, for the local population, affording an expensive master's education is often not feasible. With the educational budget provided by the Pharus Foundation, we have the opportunity to facilitate this process. In the past year, 2 surgical assistants have been trained. They are nearly done with their education and will continue to work in the hospital, ensuring sufficient personnel in the operating rooms to perform procedures. Additionally, for the upcoming year, Mektina will be pursuing her education to become a pediatrician. She already works at Sengerema Hospital in the pediatric department and is eager to begin her training. In the video, she briefly introduces herself.
