Laundrysystems & Sengerema District Hospital

❤️ Some forms of commitment go far beyond a one-time contribution and donation…

Last week, Guido Buisman and Peter van Laarhoven from Laundrysystems B.V. in Hardenberg, the Netherlands, were once again in the laundry facility of Sengerema District Hospital in Tanzania.

A visit that is actually a continuation of a remarkable story that began in 2019.

At that time, Evert Meerholz, owner of Laundrysystems, and Guido worked together in the Netherlands to design, assemble and prepare the complete laundry system for Sengerema District Hospital. They then travelled to Tanzania at their own expense to install and commission three large industrial Electrolux washing machines, doing so for a very reduced fee.

But Evert and Laundrysystems did not simply provide one-off support.

From the very beginning, Evert has remained personally committed to ensuring that the laundry facility continues to function properly. They also made a service visit in 2023. When the machines were installed in 2019, a large water reservoir was also constructed so that the machines would not run out of water. Because in Tanzania, access to water and electricity unfortunately cannot always be taken for granted.

And now, years later, that commitment continues.

For the maintenance work Guido carried out this time, Laundrysystems once again donated all the necessary parts. In addition, an Electrolux tumble dryer is currently waiting in the container in the Netherlands that is being prepared for transport to Tanzania. It will soon be a valuable addition to the laundry facility in Sengerema.

Unfortunately, Evert was unable to travel to Tanzania this time. His wife gave birth to their baby daughter last week — a very special and beautiful reason to stay home this time. ❤️

So this time, Guido travelled to Sengerema together with his colleague Peter van Laarhoven to carry out the maintenance and make sure the laundry facility continues to function properly.

What touches us deeply is that Evert and Laundrysystems have continued to feel responsible for and committed to what they helped build here back in 2019.

That is about so much more than donating machines.

It is about time, technical expertise, spare parts, advice, financial resources and personal commitment. And perhaps most importantly: the willingness to continue looking, even years later, at what is needed.

For a hospital, a laundry facility may not be the most spectacular thing to showcase on social media. But in daily practice, a properly functioning laundry is invaluable. Clean laundry is essential for safe and quality patient care.

We are therefore incredibly grateful to Evert Meerholz, Guido and the entire team at Laundrysystems B.V. for their years of generosity and commitment to Sengerema District Hospital.

It is exactly this kind of commitment that also gives us, as Stichting Simba Health, the courage to keep going.
