Slingeland Hospital and SimbaHealth support the deployment of tropical doctors in Sengerema

The Slingeland Hospital has been one of the largest training hospitals for International Health Care and Tropical Medicine (AIGT, formerly tropical training) doctors in the Netherlands for many years. Every year, 4 AIGTers follow their surgical training there and are prepared for their work in low- and middle-income countries. With the arrival of Erik Staal, the first pillar was laid for the bridge to cooperation with Sengerema. And after 12 years of deployments of surgical teams to Sengerema with medical specialists and paramedical personnel, largely working in the Slingeland Hospital, a major leap has now been made in the collaboration.

At the farewell of Erik Staal in February 2022, the Board of Directors of Slingeland Hospital indicated that it wanted to continue to support his work through SimbaHealth.

In the first place to offer tropical doctors who are trained in the Slingeland hospital a future with a workplace in Sengerema. And also to sustainably support the training and development of the local staff.

This support came into effect on March 16 with the signing of an agreement between Slingeland Hospital and SimbaHealth. The first tropical doctor to start work in Sengerema thanks to this agreement is Malouk Lap, who immediately signed her employment contract. She was trained at Slingeland Hospital, went on a deployment from Slingeland Hospital to Sengerema in 2020 and completed her internship at Sengerema Hospital last year. Thanks to this experience, she can make a flying start in the surgical departments and continue to build on the current projects.
