Construction Update

Fourteen months ago, the Pharus Foundation approved Simba Health's proposal for a new operating theater complex at Sengerema Hospital. Two months later, the necessary permits were obtained, and the site was prepared for construction. Exactly a year ago, construction began. By the end of December, the highest point was reached.

Since then, work has been ongoing on the internal and external finishing. Walls are being plastered, electrical wires are being installed, tiles are being laid, and windows and doors are being fitted. Someone from Dar es Salaam came to install the oxygen and compressed air lines for the four new operating theaters and recovery room. The four special sliding doors for the operating rooms are being installed, including one with a lead lining to enable the use of a C-Arm in accordance with the latest government regulations, ensuring outsiders are not exposed to released X-ray radiation.

The "to do" list now includes floors, the installation of sanitary facilities, the windows on the upper floor, painting the inside and outside of the building, and on the outside, the channeling and storage of rainwater, as well as cleaning and beautifying the area around the building.

The completion date is now set for July 2024, a few months later than originally planned. This is mainly due to some adjustments based on evolving insights, as well as a contractor who wants to deliver the best of the best. For him, the project goal is not just a functional new building for Sengerema Hospital, but also a bit of a showcase for his business in Tanzania. And as the photos suggest, the operating theater complex, as far as we are concerned, should also be visually appealing.
