Trauma Care Training

Many trauma patients end up in the hospital in Sengerema, and adequate care for seriously injured patients is essential. That's why, at the end of February, we conducted an emergency response course for healthcare workers for the first time. During the course, we covered 2 days of theory and practiced extensively with materials such as neck braces, stabilization for pelvic fractures, the use of a tourniquet, and much more.

After the theory and hands-on material practice, it gets "serious" as participants then had the opportunity to practice on simulated patients (actors), portraying multiple injured patients. Practicing scenarios is a crucial component of medical training to thoroughly prepare staff with real patients in a controlled environment.

Organizing and executing this course posed a challenge for us, but the participants were very pleased and even assessed afterwards that they had learned a lot. Our goal now is to repeat this course once a month so that everyone can participate. Additionally, we aim to offer the course every few months to practice providing adequate care for seriously injured patients.

During the course, we observed firsthand how motivated the participants were to learn more, identified areas where there are still challenges, and realized that even a 2-day course can make a significant difference in the care that can be provided. There was also a positive difference noted in the collaboration among participants, and the team-building aspect of these types of courses became evident.

We and the participants were very pleased with this course and would like to continue with it.
