25 Inguinal Hernias

In February 2026, we received a visit from SWIFTSS in Sengerema. No, no relation to that famous singer, but an NGO from England specializing in inguinal hernia surgery (swiftss.org). During two working weeks, 25 patients were helped in one of our new operating rooms using a special mesh. No, not the official expensive surgical mesh, but one locally cut from mosquito netting and sterilized.

3D recordings were made of these operations, so that they can also be used as teaching material in other developing countries. A beautiful and useful collaboration between Swiftss-UK, Bugando University Medical Center-Mwanza and our Sengerema hospital. Facilitated by Simba Health.
