Greetings of Olivier and Marloes

By now, fully integrated into Tanzanian life (given that this message is appearing “already” after more than half a year living here), Marloes and I started in Sengerema in June. Malouk Lap has handed over the surgical baton to me and entrusted me with the task of coordinating care in that specialty. Marloes is passionate about pediatrics and is therefore working in the NICU, PICU, and the other pediatric wards. After previous experiences in Suriname and India and some theoretical preparation, it’s interesting to be back with our feet in the thick of it again. The clinical, but perhaps even greater cultural challenges make these “tropical years” count double, but the satisfaction after an effective day is correspondingly great. Now that we’ve found our rhythm a bit more, we can hopefully soon turn our gaze to the future and start thinking about how we can make (surgical) care a sustainable part of the system. If you have an idea about this or would like to catch up sometime, karibu sana!

Warm greetings from Sengerema,
Olivier and Marloes
