A Message To Our Friends And Donators

Thanks to the help of many donors, schools, students, and volunteers, Sengerema Hospital in Tanzania has been brought to digital life. What began as an ambitious ICT project has grown into a lasting improvement in care, communication, and safety—especially for the people who need it most. Below is a message for our Friends and Donors.

A Message to our Friends and Donors

Dear friends and donors,

Thanks to your support—in time, money, knowledge, and materials—the 65-year-old mission hospital in the interior of Tanzania has taken a huge step forward, and computers are now running in nearly all departments.

The 100 donated terminals from secondary school Het Streek in Ede were carefully checked and equipped with the right software by students from Nova College and interns from Mr-Orang B.V. in Waalwijk. Powerful server packs and other hardware came from North Holland, and with the help of volunteers all materials were packed, shipped, and connected on site.

The donation of peripherals, such as servers with backup batteries, has proven vital because the electricity supply is not always reliable. Thanks to these provisions, the hospital can continue to function even during power outages.

In addition, local investments were made in cabling, software licenses, training hospital staff, and security. A huge job—both in the Netherlands and in Tanzania—but what a result!

Of course, it didn’t happen without challenges. Poor roofs and high costs mean that Wi-Fi still works in only 20% of the hospital. And earlier this year lightning struck, resulting in the loss of 15 computers and a server. Fortunately, the new system runs on a local server, so the damage was limited.

Despite everything, the impact is already clearly visible:

  • For patients: shorter waiting times, faster tests and diagnoses, and safer medication use.

  • For medical staff: smoother and more legible communication between departments, no endless searches for files and/or X-rays, direct access to knowledge, and better stock registration.

  • For the hospital as a whole: compliance with the government-required digital submission of data, more insight into finances and planning, more efficient reporting, and reduced vulnerability to mistakes or corruption.

Heartfelt thanks to everyone who helped: from the pupils and students to the donors, technicians, and packers. Your contribution truly makes a difference—especially for the poorer population served by this hospital. Together we bring lasting improvement and hope.

Warm regards,
The board of Stichting Simba (Health)
